Background

I am a junior at Alma College with a double major in Spanish and in Exercise and Health Science. I am 19 years old and very excited to be visiting Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. This will be the longest trip I've even taken, and the first without family. I chose this trip because of my Spanish language background and the once in a lifetime opportunity to go to the Galapagos islands. Lindsey Rentfrow is my roommate and we are going to have an awesome time. I expect that after two weeks at the Academia Latinoamericana, I will come back much more fluent in Spanish (hopefully with too many pictures and souvenirs!).

The basic pronunciation of vowel sounds are: ah, eh, ee, oh, and oo ( a, e, i, o, u)

Things you might want to know:

• No hablo Español - I don’t speak Spanish.
• ¿Habla usted inglés? - Do you speak English?
• Me llamo _____ - My name is _____.
• ¿Como te llamas? - What is your name?
• Por favor…Gracias - Please….Thank you.
• De nada - You’re welcome.
• Perdón - Excuse me.
• No sé - I don’t know.

While out:

• ¿Donde está el baño? - Where is the bathroom?
• La cuenta - the bill
• ¿Cuánto cuesta? - How much does it cost?
• Caro/Barato - expensive/cheap
• ¿Cómo voy a ____ - How do I get to ____?
• Me gustaría ____ - I would like ____(ordering food).

Mi proyecto será, en parte, sobre las maneras en que la vida estadounidense ha manejado Ecuador a lo que ha llegado a ser hoy. Unas preguntas:

• ¿Mientras nuestro país es más diverso que siempre, por qué ha ocurrido, y qué es el impacto al Ecuador?
• ¿Como es la actitud de la gente de Ecuador hacia los Estados Unidos?
• ¿En respeto a la comida y el atuendo, como se compara con esos de aquí?
• ¿Dónde vemos aspectos de la cultura ecuatoriana en nuestra cultura?(y viceversa)
• ¿En qué manera influyeron los españoles a la cultura del país?
