Background
I am a sophomore at Alma College. I am planning to Major in Spanish. (possibly minor - haven't really decided yet.)
Why I'm taking this trip
I am taking this trip not only to help me pin down my major/minor but also because I think it is a once in a life time opportunity. Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands seem like a very beautiful place to begin my traveling experiences!
Roommate
I will be rooming with Lauren Brotsky during the Ecuador stay. We are both very excited that our host family has a 19 year old daughter. We hope we will become good friends!
Trip Expectations
The trip to Ecuador will be my first out of the country experience. I haven't even been to Canada! The trip is what is going to determine whether I major or minor in Spanish. I figure if I love being abroad, then I'll major. Otherwise, I'll minor. I would ideally like to be a Spanish translator. I am actually going between the idea of being a Spanish translator and being a Spanish teacher. If I decided to translate, I hope to someday work for a translating company. This would require me to major in Spanish and have a double minor in English and Communication. (or a double major - who knows!) I have had two years of Spanish in high school and I just completed my freshman year at Alma where I took beginners Spanish.
Random Information About Me
- I am a HUGE fan of the Detroit Red Wings. If you are a fan too, we will be great friends.
- I am an Alma College Cheerleader. Last football season was my first time ever cheering and I'll be cheering again this football season. Come watch the Scots and look for me at the games!
- I am in love with peas. It's weird - but I don't care!
- I am in charge of writing up the travelogue for Friday, May 11th. Check it out!
- I am apparently also know as Erin Rentfrow. That is what my plane ticket said! :)
- I am interested in a project about the Spanish culture. While in Ecuador I will be collecting research in order to complete my project. My project is going to be a complete journal log of the trip including pictures. I have hopes that future students for this spring term will be able to look at my journal and feel better about what to expect on the trip.
