The Galapagos

Another glorious day at the Galapagos on May 24, 2007 with Alma College.

Our Morning

Today we went through our usual routine of waking up at 6:45 with a breakfast call from our boats crew. We gandered down to the ships dining area and were greeted with smiles and warm pancakes, bacon, eggs, and cereal. We ate our food and our day was about to begin.

The day Begins!

After our fantastic breakfast we were called to board our dingy, which would take us to our final island that we would visit on our Galopogos trip. This island contained much of the similar animals and plant life as the other islands did; blue footed boobies, sea lions, and friget birds. Today would be different though we soon found out. After our 10 minute dingy ride to the island, we climbed ashore and were greeted by howls of sea lions and chirping birds. Our guide started to lead us through the island when we soon found that it was mating season for friget birds and boobies. The boobies were doing there usual dance for their mates and whisteling away. This was normal but the friget birds were doing something that we had not seen yet. They were perched upon their nest waiting for a willing companion. Their breasts were puffed out in a massive bright red color. The color of their breast was the brightest color of red that I had ever seen in the wilderness. They looked to be kings upon their nest waiting for a new mate.

More of the Tour

Once seeing the massive friget breast were continued on our way touring the island, mostly seeing more blue footed boobies dancing for their partners. At this time our tour was coming to and end along with the end of our Galopogos trip. We then boarded our dingy for the Ledgend Ship. Once boarding the ship we were ordered to get cleaned up and get ready for departure for the main land. Once cleaned up we found that there were sandwhiches and juice waiting for us on the upper deck. We endulged on sandwhiches, juice, and a little last minute sun bathing. After an hour ship ride we entered the harbor where we were set to board our dingy for one last time. This dingy ride resulted in an unsettling feeling. This feeling came from the fact that our trip through the Galopogos was coming to an end. Once taking our dingy ride we climbed on land again where the air port was.

It's Over?

This air port was not your usual air port. It was more of a run way with a pole barn built near it. We ended up laying around in the pole barn eating ice cream and waiting for our flight that would take us away from the magnificent Galapagos islands. Our trip that Darwin encountered so many years before was soon to be over. We entered our plane and began to fly back to our homes in Ecuador. Soon after we landed our groups of 2 or 3 went our seperate ways and the Galapagos Islands were soon just another amazing adventure that we encountered on our trip to Ecuador.
