First Full Day in the Islands
We were all woken up at 6:45 by soft music and the voice of our cruise director over the intercom. It was the only way to make sure we would all wake up for breakfast at 7. Breakfast was just as good as dinnner the night before, mmmm french toast. We were tired stil;l from an early morning but ready for our first full day touring the Galapogos Islands.
Dragon Cerro
Our first destination was Dragon Hill. It was our first glance and some of the thousands of lizards on the islands. The Frigits and Gaviotas met their respective guides for the first time. Christian and Harry were the coolest guides ever.
Punta Cormorant
After we sailed through the ocean for a bit we arrived at Punta Cormorant. Everyone was excited to snorkel and for some it would be the first time. We get to the island and the first thing we see are Boobies! The guides explained that we were watching sexual competition. Two males were fighting over a female. In competition they dance and whistle, not too unlike humans. Then on the beach were sea lions sprawled all over.
We went on a hike and saw more wifelife and beatiful beaches. Snorkeling was a blast! We swam so close to the sea lions. They act just liek playful puppies. Some of us even got to see a shark swimming out in the deeper water.
On the Boat
Unfortunantly being at sea has side effects. A couple of us got pretty sick from the rocking motion of the boat while we moved. Dramanine didn't always help but Eric came to the resucue with motion sickness patches. There were also side effects from the sun. Although liying out in the sun feels good and you can get a wicked tan being on the Equator, it burns and can cause pain, which many of us experienced.
We ended our day with a great dinner and a meeting to go over the next day's activities, what to wear, where we were going, what animals we would see etc.
